Focus on Taxation: Changes to the Nevada Commerce Tax Return Filing Requirements

Thanks to the Nevada Legislature, companies with less than $4 million of Nevada gross revenue have less to do this summer. In the past, all companies conducting business in Nevada were required to file Commerce Tax returns regardless of revenue. However, a new bill went into effect on June 13, 2019 that changes the filing requirements. Pursuant to Senate Bill 497, only businesses whose Nevada gross revenue for the 2018-2019 tax year is greater than or equal to $4 million will be required to file a Commerce Tax return. You may have received an email informing you of this change and stating that your Commerce Tax account will be automatically closed effective June 30, 2019. Don’t worry, should you still be required to file in the future, your account can be reopened.

For businesses that have Nevada gross revenue over $4 million, Commerce Tax returns will still be due by August 14, 2019. Even if no tax is due, all businesses with Nevada gross revenue over $4 million will be required to file a return.
