Free Rose Paper Flower Template

This free small rose paper flower template is available in my resource library.

I’ve included a free small rose paper flower template. I made these with medium weight cardstock, I found it to be the best paper for rolled flower and best paper for Cricut flowers in general.

I love making these rolled paper roses in all different sizes and colors. They look fantastic in a bouquet for a shadow box or as additional decor on a gift.

I’ve made a ton of different rolled flowers but this particular rolled rose is a little different in that the petals are not perfectly uniform. There is lots of variation in the sizes of each petal creating a different look than the typical uniform rolled paper flower.

The rolled rose is perfect for craft or decor projects where you need a smaller easier rose as part of the bigger piece. I have a more elaborate layered rose that takes a bit more time to make if you are interested in that. The layered rose is more intricate in its design but you can control how the petals layered on top of each other. This is a better design for bigger paper rose projects.

I also have a separate blooming rose which takes on a slightly different layered design. It’s amazing how a subtle change in the template creates such a different finished look.

Back to this rolled rose project.

I’ve included a printable version in addition to an SVG of the paper rose template but it does get a little tedious cutting these by hand.

If you plan on making these in volume, I would highly recommend getting a cutting machine like the Cricut.

Materials for Paper Rose – paper rose template, Cardstock and the Cricut:

*this article contains affiliate links for your convenience, full disclosures here

Cardstock – I prefer lighter weight (65lb) cardstock paper because it flexes easier when curling the petals. I also like cardstock that doesn’t have a white core. Here are some of my favorites:

Glue – I like tacky glue mostly because I don’t like to get out the glue gun when I don’t have to. I get the smaller size from Michaels so it’s easier to use but you can also order it from Amazon as well.

Cutting Machine – I use a Cricut machines and accessories for beginners for more info.

Paper clip – this is optional but it helps

How to make a spiral paper rose

Step 1: Print your free rose paper flower template

I’ve created a printable flower template available in multiple formats. Access instructions for your free template are available at the end of the article.

Step 2: Cut the printable flower template

I cut my paper flower templates on the Cricut but it is totally doable by hand.

Step 3: Roll the rose cut out

I like to use tweezers to make a tight core. Start with the outer most end of the spiral. Once you’ve wrapped the paper a couple of times around, clip it with a paper clip.

Step 4: Glue flower in place

I like to first glue the tab on the outer most petal (the petal at the center of the spiral) to the 4th most outer petal. This creates the outer perimeter of the rose. I then glue only the other perimeter of petals to the base circle.

I do it this way so I can adjust the internal petals after setting the glue.

Step 5: Adjust the internal spirals

If you want this part to stay in place, you can lift the spiral and apply additional glue. I tend to just leave it.

Step 6: Curl the petals

Or don’t curl it, it’s really up to you.
